Milk Bucket Contest closed regular season

Special to the Enterprise

The Barnesville Shamrocks played at Morristown against backyard rival Union Local for the Jets’ Homecoming game on Oct. 22. The Rocks went into the tussle with a stellar 7-1 record against the 5-3 Jets who suffered back-to-back losses to St. Clairsville and Bellaire. Barnesville’s lone loss came at the hands of the Shadyside Tigers early in September.

Friday night’s game was the 63rd matchup between the two teams with the winner claiming ownership of the coveted “milk bucket” acknowledging the dairy farming heritage for both school districts.

Barnesville led the series 27 to 22 with three ties prior to this game.

Also on the line for the Rocks was a possible first-round state playoff berth in Division VI, Region 23.

The record of the Barnesville Enterprise ends with this edition. Our press deadline was prior to last Friday’s game. The results of game and any possible Shamrocks playoff hopes will go unrecorded by a Barnesville-based publication during this centenary year of Barnesville High School football.
