Barnesville's Breanna Flood narrowly misses out on district golf berth

CARROLLTON — Barnesville sophomore Breanna Flood narrowly missed out on advancing to the district level in Ohio High School Athletic Association Division II Girls Sectional golf action at Carroll Meadows Golf Course on Thursday.

Flood (46-47) along with Jordan Gibson (46-47) of Claymont , Melanie Gibson (48-45) of Newcomerstown and Grace Green (45-48) of Shadyside each finished with rounds of 93 to tie for the sixth and final qualifying spot during Thursday's tournament to force a playoff.

Melanie Gibson of the Lady Trojans who then capture the 1-hole playoff to advance on the district competition.

Tusky Valley took the sectional team title with 321, followed by Garaway (35), Carrollton (351), River View (375), Indian Valley (388) and Claymont (389) to each advance on to the district tournament.

Also in action at the sectional tournament was Meadowbrook sophomore Kaylynn Gombeda who failed to advance with a round of 117 (60-57).

ZANESVILLE — Cambridge High's golf team returned to the links on Thursday, fresh off  qualifying for Division II district action during Wednesday's sectional tournament at River Greens Golf Course.

The Bobcats took the runner-up spot Thursday with 359 in a tri-match with host Zanesville (410) and Marietta who won the match with 343.

 AJ Wilkin and Adam Smith each shot 85 to lead Cambridge, along with Braxton Wheeler (88), Bradyn Gregg (104), Jackson Reed (107) and Adam Castello (117).

Cambridge finishes the regular season with a record of 82-54.

NEXT — Cambridge will tee off at the Division II District Tournament on Monday at Eaglesticks Golf Course.

WEST LAFAYETTE — Meadowbrook High closed out the golf season with a 356-393 dual match win over River View on Thursday night at River Greens Golf Course.

The Colts close out the season with a final mark of 15-13 dual matches; 14-19 MVL and 56-101 overall.

Cole Eltringham of the Colts and River View each shot rounds of  81 to finish as match co-medalists.

Other Meadowbrook scores included Owen Dennis, (87); Trent McManes, (92); Damon Baier (96); Alex Dennis, (99); Dalton Gombeda, (106).
