AVC Communications acquires station in Zanesville market
AVC Communications Multimedia Group of Cambridge recently acquired the classic hits station FM 107.3 WYBZ from Y Bridge Broadcasting at the end of May.
According to Inside Radio, the deal totaled $1.4 million and gives AVC Communications seven radio stations operating in southeast Ohio along with 96 FM (WCMJ), Classic Hits 93.5 (WBNV), Kickin’ Country KC-105 (WWKC), Classic Rock 92.1 (WBIK), WILE 97.7 FM and Nash Icon 107.9/98.5 FM and 1270 AM.
The WYBZ market targets listeners in Zanesville, Muskingum County and the surrounding counties of Perry, Licking, Morgan and Coshocton.
“This gives us another footprint in Muskingum County with WILE and WCMJ having already established good footprints in the county,” said AVC Communications General Manager Joel Losego. “This helps us provide services that they (WYBZ) were unable to provide to their clients. And, we have a wider variety of services that we can market for those businesses.”
The WYBZ station licensed to Crooksville first aired in 1990.
The purchase also expands the listening audience for AVC Communications, located on College Hill Road outside Cambridge.
“This offers us access to 88,000 unique sets of ears each week for each of our seven stations,” said Losego of the advertising exposure for future clients. “That gives us the largest group of listeners in the area, and if people are listening to multiple stations those numbers will increase.
“People are transient. They will come from Zanesville and Muskingum County to Cambridge to eat in restaurants and shop, while people from Cambridge and Guernsey County go to Zanesville to visit the mall and dine in restaurants. In the counties we serve — Guernsey, Muskingum, Belmont and Noble — we have the top radio stations.”
Losego said AVC Communications and Y Bridge Broadcasting previously worked together with the Cambridge-based company providing production and engineering services.
AVC Communications also operates community television station YRP-TV.
