STEUBENVILLE Visiting Barnesville High ran into one of the Ohio Valleys best teams and best running backs and suffered a decisive 63-14 setback at the hands of Steubenville Catholic on Saturday night.

Senior running back Doug Maslowski scored five TDs for Central Catholic and booted an extra point to account for 31 of his teams points. He finished with 195 rushing yards on 17 carries. Crusader signal caller Brenton Colabella tossed for 210 yards.

Each half began badly for the Shamrocks (4-3) as the hosts scored three TDs in the opening period and three more in the third stanza.

Barnesvilles only scores came in the second. Colton Pritchard scored on a 14-yard run at the 9:34 mark. That was followed by a second tally when when Kyle Yaquinta found Brandon Burkhart with a five yard aerial with 1:08 left. David Brown booted successful PATs following each score and the Rocks trailed 28-14 entering halftime and, undoubtedly felt like they were still in the game.

The Crusaders (5-2) enjoyed a 482-208 advantage in total yards and had good balance with 273 rushing yards and 209 through the air. The winners also posted a 21-14 edge in first downs.

NEXT Barnesville travels to Woodsfield to face Monroe Central on Friday, with kickoff at 7 p.m.
