Jets lose to Warriors, 70-60MORRISTOWN -- Buckeye Trail High jumped out to an early lead, outscoring host Union Local by 11 in the first quarter before making it back-to-back victories with a 70-60 decision on Friday.Trail (2-3) converted 9-of-14 field goal attempts in the first quarter and finished the game hitting 22-of-37 for 59 percent."We got off to a good start and we shot well tonight," said Trail coach Rod Gray. "They (Union Local) did a nice job taking away our inside game, but that left the perimeter wide open."The Warriors knocked home a half dozen three-point buckets on the night as Zach Roe, CJ Beaver and Dakota Patterson each tallied a pair. Beaver finished with a game-high 23 points followed by Roe with 19 and 17 from Patterson.After finding success in the first quarter, Trail increased its lead to 35-23 by outscoring Union Local, 11-10, in the second frame.Union Local (2-3) cut the deficit by a pair in the third frame after Trail led by as many as 16, but the Jets still trailed 50-40 entering the final eight minutes of play."They made a little run in the third quarter, but we were able to play even with them in the fourth quarter," said Gray. "We held the ball in the fourth, and they were forced to foul us."The Warriors converted six field goals and eight free throws in the final frame to finish the game 20-of-30 from the charity stripe.Trail won the battle of the boards, 35-20, behind Kyle Larrick with 12, Ethan Watson with eight and six from Beaver who also tallied three assists.Roe led the Warriors with 12 assists and three steals while Larrick contributed two swipes. Both teams finished with 11 turnovers.Myron Jellison paced Union Local with 18 points while Jacob Bailey scored 17 and Tyler McGary added 10 points.
