BARNESVILLE -- Utilizing relentless defensive pressure that forced 16 first half turnovers by visiting Caldwell including 13 steals by the hosts, Barnesville High cruised to an 80-36 victory over the Redskins Friday night.

Barnesville (9-5) finished the night with 21 steals, as the Redskins committed 25 miscues.

"We came out early with good intensity and it helps to knock down your first few shots," said Barnesville coach Chris Pack. "Our defense led to a lot of our offense, which is the way we like to play.

"They (Caldwell) had a match up problem with our height and we were able to take advantage of that tonight," added Pack.

"The first of many things that we had difficulty with tonight was their size," Caldwell coach Bryian Burson agreed. "We can't match up with them with the personnel we have, so it was a struggle for us.

"We knew we had to do every thing almost perfect to give ourselves an opportunity to win, and we didn't do it tonight. They (Barnesville) play better in a helter-skelter transition game and when they play that way, they are tough to beat."

Dalton Smith led the Shamrocks effort with a triple-double, scoring 18 points while pulling down 12 boards and dishing out 10 assists. He was joined by A.J. Bohandy with a game-high 18 points.

Two additional Shamrocks finished in double-figures scoring, as Preston Dornon pumped in 15 points, including 13 in the first quarter when the 'Rocks built a 20-5 cushion, and Bryson Stephen tallied 14 points.

As a team, Barnesville converted 31-of-54 field goal attempts (57 percent) and 12-of-15 attempts (80 percent) at the free throw line.

"We were able to get the younger kids some playing time tonight, and hopefully that will help get us ready for the games down the stretch to finish the regular season," said Pack.

Caldwell (1-12) was led in scoring by Dalton Warner with nine points followed by Aaron Lucas with seven and six by Jeremy Shelton on a pair of three-point bombs in the fourth quarter.

After the Redskins scored the opening points on a layup by Lucas, Barnesville scored 18 consecutive points including a four-point play by Dornon and dunk by Smith following his only "trey" of the game.

Barnesville led 20-5 at the first break after Darren Hesson stopped the run with a "trey".

The 'Rocks outscored Caldwell 23-4 in the second quarter to post a 43-9 advantage at the half, as Bohandy scored seven and Stephen pumped in six points.

Barnesville converted 17-of-29 field goal attempts (59 percent) while Caldwell struggled with its shooting, converting just 4-of-25 (16 percent) in the first two quarters.

The Shamrocks continued their dominance in the third frame, outscoring the visitors 22-10 behind eight points scored by Stephen and five apiece from Smith and Bohandy.

Caldwell posted a slim 17-15 advantage in the fourth quarter behind Warner's nine points and Shelton's "treys".

The Redskins finished the game converting 13-of-55 field goal attempts (24 percent) and 4-of-11 (36 percent) at the charity stripe.

Barnesville won the battle of the boards, 45-26, as Smith led all rebounders with 12 boards followed by Stephen with eight, six from Cristian Bailey and five by Tyler Fitzpatrick. The 'Skins were led on the glass by Warner with seven boards and Hesson with five.

Barnesville also tallied 19 assists on 31 field goals. The Redskins finished with 10 steals and five assists, led by Lucas with three steals and Warner with a trio of assists.
