Barnesville loses to Monroe Central
WOODSFIELD -- Barnesville High fought back from a slow first half but fell just short in a 59-49 loss to Monroe Central on Monday night.
The Lady Shamrocks (9-11) faced a nine-point deficit after one quarter of play, but things only got worse in the second as Monroe Central (17-3) put up 14 points to take a 32-15 lead at halftime.
The Lady Seminoles increased their advantage by four in the third quarter before Barnesville outscored them 27-16 in the final eight minutes to cut the lead to 10 at the end of the game.
Mariah Miller anchored Barnesville, scoring 11 points, pulling down eight rebounds and dishing out three assists.
Heidi Hines added 11 points, Sarah Phillips contributed 10 and Megan Phillips finished with four steals.
Aleisha Guiler continued her strong season for Monroe Central, scoring 22 points and grabbing a game-high nine rebounds.
Karlie Davis finished with 14 points and three assists for the Lady Seminoles, while Whitney Marshall added eight points.
Kim Lafferre added five points and three assists. Barnesville outrebounded Monroe Central 27-19 and committed one less turnover, but was unable to capitalize on opportunities early.
