Barnesville 48, River 46
HANNIBAL -- Jessica Hunkler got loose from the defense and drained a three-pointer from the wing with just 18 seconds to go to lift visiting Barnesville to a 48-46 OVAC girls' 'consolation' game win over host River on Thursday.
River (9-10) got a good open look at a "three" at the other end and got two offensive boards followed by shots in the remaining time but couldn't get anything to fall.
Barnesville (8-10) got off to a 12-9 lead in the opening frame, but the Lady Pilots rebounded the second round with a 16-10 scoring advantage to take a 25-22 lead at the break. Following the intermission, it was the Lady Shamrocks' turn as the visitors outscored River 12-9 to knot the score at 34 going to the final eight minutes. The hosts were clinging to a 46-45 margin when Hunkler connected with the game-winning shot.
River outgoaled the Lady Shamrocks 16-15 as the Lady Pilots hit 16-of-55 shots from the field for 29 percent. Barnesville made up the difference from the foul line, converting 14-of-27, while the hosts were an even 50 percent (9-of-18) from the bonus line.
Heidi Hines paced the Lady 'Rocks in scoring with 16 points followed by Mariah Miller with 11. Hunkler finished with seven points and Sarah Phillips added six markers. Barnesville turned the ball over 22 times.
Jordan Ramsey, with four three-pointers, led the Lady Pilots with 14 points. Alex Isaly added nine and Epic Wayts seven points. Isaly also had half of River's 12 assists and seven of the 22 steals, while the hosts committed 12 miscues.
Barnesville posted a 32-22 rebounding advantage, with Hines completing a double-double with 11 boards while Hunkler followed closely with 10 caroms. Ericka Williams paced River on the glass with six boards to match her six points and Wayts added five rebounds.
