Lady 'Rocks lose to Colts
BYESVILLE -- Barnesville's Lady 'Rocks faded down the stretch, resulting in an 80-59 loss to the Lady Colts on Monday, Feb. 2.
Both teams came out strong, with Barnesville (7-9) claiming a 20-19 first quarter lead behind nine points from Heidi Hines and seven from Megan Phillips. Katherine Jirles countered with seven for Meadowbrook (6-7).
In the second period, the Lady Colts gained a 20-15 edge to move on top, 39-35, at the half. Hines poured in 13 points in the round for the Lady Shamrocks.
Eight points from Emily Jirles helped Meadowbrook outscore Barnesville 20-17 in round three, extending the lead to 59-52 heading to the fourth frame where the Lady Colts nailed 15-of-20 free throws to win going away.
Emily Jirles turned in a strong 27-point, 13-rebound performance to lead Meadowbrook. Katherine Jirles checked in with 13 points and four rebounds; Bre Jones had 11 points and four assists; Shelby Stover had nine points and eight rebounds; Kinsi Tellep scored eight and Alyssa Wright had seven points, four rebounds and three assists.
The Lady Colts were 24-of-47 from the field and 27-of-37 from the free throw line. MHS was charted with 37 rebounds and just 12 turnovers.
Hines had 22 points - all in the first half - to lead Barnesville and she also had four rebounds. Allison Plumly contributed 10 points and four boards; Phillips had nine points and four caroms; Mariah Miller had eight markers; and Jenna Miller collected five rebounds and three assists.
The Lady Shamrocks were 22-of-57 from the floor and 6-of-14 at the charity stripe with 28 rebounds and 15 miscues.
