MORRISTOWN -- Caldwell High settled for the No. 6 seed at the Division IV Sectional Tournament drawing at Union Local High School on Sunday.
Shadyside and Beallsville were the clear-cut selections as the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds, respectively, for the eight-team tournament.
Play gets under way on Wednesday, Feb. 18 with No. 3 seed Frontier (9-4) facing No. 7 seed Bridgeport (5-8) at 6 p.m. and No. 1 seed Shadyside (13-2) opposing No. 8 seed St. John Central (3-13) at 8 p.m. in upper bracket contests.
The lower bracket games will be on Thursday, Feb. 19, with No. 5 seed River taking on No. 4 seed Zanesville Bishop Rosecrans (6-10) at 6 p.m. and No. 2 seed Beallsville (11-3) battling No. 6 seed Caldwell (6-7) at 8 p.m.
Beallsville won both regular season games with Caldwell, 57-48 and 64-50.
"Seeds four through seven were very close," said Caldwell coach Mike Podlasiak. "I thought the way we've been playing that we deserved a higher seed, but our one goal was that we didn't feel we matched up well with Shadyside and we've got some familiarity with Beallsville.
"The girls wanted another shot at them (Beallsville)," he added.
The upper bracket co-final featuring the Frontier-Bridgeport winner against the Shadyside-St. John Central winner will be Wednesday, Feb. 25 at 7 p.m. while the lower bracket title game between the River-Zanesville Rosecrans winner and the Beallsville-Caldwell winner will be Friday, Feb. 27.
The two sectional champs move on to the D-IV District at Indian Valley High in Gnadenhutten where they will face one-another in the semifinals.
