Barnesville swim team participates in OVAC Swim Championships

On Saturday Jan. 31, 2009, the Barnesville High School joined with 419 swimmers from the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference in the Swimming and Diving Championships at the Steubenville Natatorium. After various rumors, e-mails and phone calls, the decision was made that the meet would be held, but the time would be pushed back by one hour.

Barnesville Seniors, Shane Warner, Jordan Wells, John Huntsman, Sarah Haag, Steven Lu and Paula Liehr joined the 90 other seniors to be recognized by the OVAC.

"Every year, the group of seniors seem to grow. I think it shows that the sport of swimming is growing and our area swimmers are as fast and as strong as the rest of the state." Coach Johnson said.

"I think overall, the kids did a great job. We have only had 2 practices the entire month of January. Even though our times did not come down very much, they maintained their best times which takes great efforts to do." Johnson said.
