Union Local 43, Barnesville 37

BARNESVILLE -- The Union Local Jets earned a hard-fought 43-37 victory over cross-county rival Barnesville Tuesday night to remain undefeated one-third of the way through the 2008-09 season.

Union Local (7-0) outscored the 'Rocks 20-8 in the second quarter and 15-11 in the fourth frame to hang-on for the victory after being outscored 17-8 in the other two quarters.

The first quarter was a defensive struggle with Barnesville posting a narrow 5-4 advantage after the first eight minutes of play. Union Local erased the deficit in the second, outscoring the visitors, 20-8, for a 24-13 lead at the half.

Barnesville (4-3) rallied in the third frame by outscoring the Jets, 12-4, for a 28-25 deficit entering the final eight-minute quarter, which was won by Union Local, 15-11, to ice the victory.

Colby MacMillan finished with 14 points including the Shamrocks' only two treys of the contest and Bryson Stephen pumped in 10 for Barnesville. Cody Skinner narrowly missed double-digits with nine points.

Union Local was led offensively by Joby Barr and Myron Jellison with 14 points apiece while Kyle Blackman finished with six for coach Ben Porter.

In all, both teams converted 13 field goals, but it was the Jets who tallied four three-point buckets -- all by Jellison -- and 13-of-20 attempts at the free throw line while Barnesville converted 9-of-13 attempts at the charity stripe.

Stephen had a stellar night on the glass for the 'Rocks, finished with 20 boards. Union Local only finished with 19 as a team, led by Barr with seven.

Barbina finished with three assists and Waller tallied two steals to lead the Jets.
