Newark - Graveside funeral services celebrating the life of Evelyn J. Stevens, 86, of Newark, will be held at Newark Memorial Gardens, 1:00 P.M., Wednesday, January 6, 2020.

Evelyn died at Licking Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, December 29, 2020. She was born in Barnesville, Ohio on August 23, 1934, to the late George and Eva (Jones) Pifer.

A graduate of Barnesville High School, Evelyn served as executive secretary at Hanlon Paper Company. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Barnesville where she taught 3rd grade Sunday School for many years, as well as the folk-dancing and children's craft classes.

Evelyn, an Ohio State Buckeye fan, like to work in her garden, read, and loved to spoil her pets. She was a loving and devoted wife, step-mother, and homemaker, always offering a smile to everyone. She loved spending time with her step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, and traveling with her husband, spending their winters in Florida following his retirement.

She will be greatly missed by her step-children, Mary Jane (Don) Latta, Donna (Albert) Pruitt, Marcia (Lenny) Shaffer, Mark (Debbie) Stevens, and Matthew (Jody) Stevens, daughter-in-law, Mimi Stevens; 16, step-grandchildren, 32 step-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews, including special nephew, Danny (Becky) Martin; and many friends and neighbors.

In addition to her parents, Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Don Stevens; son, Timothy Stevens; step-grandsons, James and Jacob; brothers, Kenny, Larry, and Junior; and her beloved dog Sparkle.
