Stephen (Steve) Douglas Blaney, 69, passed away on November 5, 2019 at Duke University Hospital in Durham, North Carolina, due to complications arising from pneumonia.

Steve was born in Wheeling on December 17, 1949, and spent his childhood in Bethesda, Ohio. He graduated from Union Local High School in 1968 and attended The Ohio State University where he met his wife-to-be, Lynn Susan Webster of St. Clairsville, Ohio. They would later move to Barnesville, Ohio, and Steve would work as a manager at Blaney Lumber while they raised their son, Travis Padrick. Steve and Lynn would later divorce, and Steve moved to Carolina Shores, North Carolina, to work as a Certified Arborist for Burroughs & Chapin. He lived in Carolina Shores for the remainder of his life.

Steve is preceded in death by his parents Dexter Hoyt Blaney and Marilyn Jean (Brannen) Blaney, both of Bethesda. He is survived by his son Travis of Colorado Springs, CO; brother Kevin of Oklahoma City, OK; sister JoAnne (Blaney) McFarland of Millersport, OH; and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom loved spending time at the beach with Uncle Steve. He was loved by many, particularly his friends at the Finish Line in Little River, South Carolina.

Steve was an avid reader and golfer, as well as an enthusiastic card player. He had an insightful mind, an infectious laugh, and a natural way of putting people at ease. His wit, humor and generosity will be missed by all who knew him in life.
