Mildred “Millie” L. (Plumly) Dallas, age 90, passed away peacefully at her home, on Friday, July 31, 2015.  Millie was born to the late Mansel and Columbiana Justina (Mason) Plumly on May 16, 1925 in Barnesville, Ohio.  She graduated from Barnesville High School, and later married the love of her life, James C. Dallas.  Millie went on to work for the Ohio Bell Telephone Company, Kolcast Industries, and was a co-owner of Dallas Jewlery in Urbana. She was a past member of the Ohio & General Federation Club, The Junior Women’s Club, as well as The Ohio Horsemen’s Council.  Millie was an accomplished seamstress, wrote numerous award-winning poems, was a 4-H advisor for 39 years, was a past groomsmen for horse racer Dick Buxton, was an accomplished competitive trail rider, frequented the Kentucky Derby, and, of course, loved attending and exhibiting at the county fair.  She was a women’s softball pitcher, loved to play horseshoes, cornhole, and bowled up until she was 88.  Millie was very strong-willed, and will be remembered as a sweet woman that was devoted to her family, friends, and especially her animals.
Millie is survived by her daughter, Carol S. (Gary) Zerkle; a son, James M. Dallas; 4 grandchildren, Mike S. (Deborah) Holycross, Matt Holycross, James Dallas Jr., and David Dallas; 7 great-grandchildren, Tessie, Dalton, Grace, Ashley, Kaitlyn, Lauren, and Lindsay; 5 great-great-grandchildren, Bentley, Izzabell, Addison, Ashlyn, and Aspen; her brother, William C. Plumly; sister-in-law, Martha (Dallas) Perkins; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends, Virginia Black, Allene Angles, and Ann Wright.
Along with her parents, Millie was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Dallas; and two sisters, Virginia and Kathryn.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 6, 2015 from 10 a.m.-11 a.m., in the WALTER & STOWE FUNERAL HOME, Urbana.  Funeral services will follow, beginning at 11 a.m.  Contributions may be made in Millie’s honor to PAWS Animal Shelter (1535 US 36, Urbana, OH 43078) or to the Champaign County Fairgrounds (384 Park Ave, Urbana, OH 43078) to help with the maintenance of the horse arena.  Condolences may be made to the family by visiting
