Marshall G. Sayre

Marshall G. Sayre, 85, of The Villages, Fla., passed away November 29, 2010. He was born in Wheeling, W.Va. He was the sone of former Barnesville residents, the late George and Madge Sayre. He was graduated in 1943 from Barnesville High School where he was a class officer and a four year varsity basketball player. Following graduation he attended Muskingum College where he was a varsity basketball and tennis team member. He received his Bachelor's degree in 1947. Marshall was A Jennings Scholar with two master's degrees, one from the University of Pittsburgh and the other from Akron University. He retired from high school administration after 32 years serving as the assistant principal of Glen-Oaks High School and coach for their football and basketball teams. He retired to Florida from North Canton, Ohio in 1998. Marshall was a member of Community United Methodist Church, Fruitland Park, Fla. He enjoyed golf and The Ohio State Buckeyes.

His survivors include: Leslie Ann Devlin, daughter-in-law, Sun City Center, Fla.; Brian T. Sayre, grandson, Pittsburgh, Pa.; James A. Sayre, grandson, Boardman, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn; son, Gordon; his parents, George and Madge Sayre, and his sister, Joanne Belter.
