Vernon Wehr, 83, of Barnesville, Ohio died Monday, February 9, 2009 at Wheeling Hospital. He was born June 4, 1925 in Calais, Ohio a son of the late Hort Wehr and Faye Carpenter Wehr.
Vernon was a Protestant. He and Marjorie enjoyed their CB radio friends and attended auctions together. He was retired from North American Coal Company #1 Mine of Powhatan; he was a former vice-president of the Powhatan local UMWA, chairman of the safety committee, and active with the UMWA throughout his career.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Saffell Wehr; sister Helma Stephen; brothers, Curtis, Donnie and William Wehr.
Surviving are daughters, Becky (Darryl) Hughes of Cambridge, Ohio, Barbara (Ryan) Fair of Akron, Ohio, Rose (Dale) Brothers of Baltimore, Ohio; sons, William R. Nancy Wehr of Newport, Ind., Francis (Christie) Wehr of Lafferty, Ohio, and David (Lisa) Wehr of Butlerville, Pa.; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sisters Eva Mae Brown of Warren, Ohio, Janet Stump of Fla., Norma Lee Schweikert of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, Bernice Moore of Barnesville, Beverly Legg of Sugarcreek, Ohio, Velma Neuhart of Calais; brothers, Freddie Wehr of Columbus, Ohio, Lawrence Wehr, Norman (Diane) Wehr and Roger (Judy) Wehr all of Barnesville.
Friends were received Thursday, February 12 at Kelly-Kemp-Braido Funeral Home, 702 East Main St., Barnesville, Ohio where services were held Friday, February 13 with burial in Ebenezer Cemetery, Bethesda, Ohio.
