Donald R. VanFossen, 80, of Barnesville, Ohio died Thursday, February 12, 2009 at OVMC, Wheeling, W.V. He was born July 19, 1928 in Flushing, Ohio a son of the late Anson and Sarah VanFossen.
Donald was retired from the Operating Engineers after 33 years of service, a veteran serving in the US Army during the Korean War, a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Disabled American Veterans , and the Barnesville American Legion.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Burdette VanFossen; sisters, Elsie and Lucille; brothers, Raymond, Fred, Russell and Earl.
Surviving are his wife, Irene Pierce VanFossen; a daughter Redona (Richard) Truax; sons, Tim (Patricia) VanFossen and Mike (Tammy) VanFossen; step-daughters, Peggy (Keith) McMillan, Barbara (Chris) Ditto all of Barnesville; grandchildren, Shawn, Casey and Carly; several step-grandchildren.
Friends were recieved Sunday, February 15 at Kelly-Kemp-Braido Funeral Home, 702 East Main St., Barnesville, Ohio where services were held Monday, February 16 with Pastor Richard Cox officiating, burial in Southern Cemetery, Barnesville. Belmont County Council Veterans of Foreign wars services were Monday, February 16.
