Barnesville Village Council will be looking into legislation that would prohibit soliciting in the village, except for non-profit organizations. In that case, Mayor Dale Bunting would approve the request on a case-by-case basis. Mayor Bunting told village council of his request at its meeting Feb. 18.

Mayor Bunting asked Village Solicitor Adam Myser to draft an ordinance stating when the Community Development Committee meet for their standard monthly meeting so that no further announcement is required.

In other business, Village Administrator Roger Deal updated council on the AEP project. He said access roads have been made along with clearing of trees and they will begin setting poles. He wanted to inform the public that AEP is progressing through town.

Council was also updated on the heating and cooling for the Municipal Building. A detailed spreadsheet of the three estimates were given to council. Then, council accepted the estimate from Emory Heating and Cooling, LLC.

Council also approved a clothing and uniform allowance ordinance. Deal said council had previously approved it but no ordinance was done. He noted the increase for EMS and Public Works, and wanted to include an increase for the police. Deal also said it had been 12 years with no rate changes.

In other business, Police Chief Rocky Sirianni asked council to approve promoting Logan Havas to Officer I. Sirianni said Havas had been with the department for two years. Council approved on a 4-0-2 vote.

Fire Chief Tim Hall asked council to use the Frank Williams’ former building for fire classes and training. Council expressed their consent for approval to use the building for fire classes and training.

Chief Hall told council that the BWC Grant for an Industrial Washing Machine for turn-out gear was approved for approximately $13,000.

Council also had an executive session for the possible sale or lease of property. No direct action was taken upon their return.
