WVU Medicine Barnesville Hospital still plans to develop a sub-acute detoxification program, but a site for the endeavor has yet to be determined.

The hospital has been working with Crossroads Counseling Services and the Mental Health and Recovery Board of Belmont County to create this type of program.

Originally, officials considered a plan to lease the village-owned Bohandy Building in downtown Barnesville. However, Dave Phillips, hospital president and CEO, said recently the hospital board decided to step away from the project and consider other options for a more affordable location.

After finding a new site, the hospital wants to open an eight-bed, inpatient detox unit for people who are dealing with drug or alcohol addiction, Phillips said. He hopes to find another building soon.

Meanwhile, Barnesville Hospital still offers outpatient detox services. He said Addiction Services of Eastern Ohio is located in the hospital’s medical office building.
