On Oct. 5 and 6, the Buckeye Buckmasters Chapter of the BADF had its 9th annual Veterans Appreciation Hunt at Dakota Outfitters just outside of Barnesville.

This year's recipient of the hunt was Dennis Wilcox from Somerton. Wilcox served his country in the U.S. Army and fought overseas in Vietnam in 1966 and 1967.

He has been a long-time supporter of the Buckeye Buckmasters Banquet and won the hunt at the Chapter's Annual Charity Dinner Banquet this past September. There were approximately 25 veterans in attendance at the banquet and all present were given a token of appreciation for their service to our nation and a chance to win the hunt.

Wilcox not only won the hunt, but was also presented with a Ruger American 350 Legend rifle package to help collect his quarry.

On the second evening of his hunt, he was successful in harvesting a beautiful 160 class whitetail buck just before the sun went down. His son Scott was able to join him in the blind and celebrate the moment.

Like most veterans, Dennis Wilcox humbly commented, "I just served my country the best I could, I never expected anything in return."

As an added bonus, Wilcox’s buck is being mounted free of charge by Ben Riggenbach, owner of Mossy Rock Taxidermy in Woodsfield. The Buckeye Buckmasters would like to say a special "Thank You" to Jim Moses from Dakota Outfitters for once again donating and hosting the hunt, and Ben Riggenbach for his continued support of the annual event.

Projects like this are made possible only through the gracious support of like-minded Sportsmen from all over the Ohio Valley who attend the Banquet each fall. This year's banquet is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 19 at the Elks Lodge in Barnesville.
