SANDUSKY, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio woman has been charged with child endangerment after a 2-year-old boy in her care was found wandering residential streets alone, according to police.

Jillian Jaunzemis, who runs a day care from her Sandusky home, pleaded not guilty to the misdemeanor charge Tuesday.

Police responded to reports of a boy riding a plastic scooter in the middle of the street Monday morning. They found that the boy was not wearing a jacket or shoes in 35-degree weather, according to a police report.

Officers determined the boy had come from Jaunzemis’ home, where she was taking care of six other children at the time.

Jaunzemis told police she thought the child was sleeping downstairs while she was upstairs doing laundry. Police believe the 2-year-old exited out the front door because it had not been childproofed.

This is the fourth time in less than five years that police have been called to Jaunzemis’ home about incidents involving children she watches, WEWS-TV reported.
