Grief can come in many forms. It is very emotional but it also has physical, cognitive, behavioral, social, cultural, spiritual and philosophical dimensions to it. Whatever form it comes in, grief is a natural response to a loss of friends or family and coping with it can be a struggle. Connecting with bereavement services, like those provided by Hospice of Guernsey, can help individuals face the challenges grief brings and move them to a more positive change.
One of the most beneficial ways to cope with grief is by joining a support group. Knowing that you are not alone and that others have had similar experiences can make a world of difference. With this in mind, Hospice of Guernsey will be hosting a GriefShare Support Group at Barnesville United Methodist Church, which is located at 123 W. Church St., Barnesville, beginning on Thursday, Feb. 6 from Noon until 2 p.m. The group will meet each Thursday for 13 weeks and is built around a video curriculum. Each week, the group will watch a video seminar featuring top experts on grief and recovery subjects. After the video, the participants will spend time discussing what was presented in that week’s video and also what is going on with their lives. During the week you will have the opportunity to use your workbook for further personal study of the grieving process and help sort out your emotions through journaling. The group will spend time discussing questions and comments from the workbook study.
If you are interested in participating in this friendly, caring group, contact Terri Wootton, at 740-432-7440 or Barnesville United Methodist Church at 740-425-3245. A minimum of 10 participants are required to host the group and cost is $20 to cover the cost of the workbook.
