ST. CLAIRSVILLE — Macy’s will be closing 20 stores this year, including its Ohio Valley Mall location.
The Cafaro Company was aware that several stores were in jeopardy.
"We know Macy's has been doing this for the last few years, they've been under a lot of pressure from their board and investors to maintain profit levels, and so they've been doing that by closing stores whenever their leases expire," Cafaro Company Spokesman Joe Bell said. "So, knowing that's the way they are operating, we've been talking with other entities in creating space in what is now Macy's to introduce new retailers or other kind of concepts to the area."
In August 2016, Macy's announced that it would close 100 stores. Since then, it has been shuttering these locations as their leases expire.
Macy’s joins Sears as one of the mall’s other anchor stores to shut down in the last year.
