CAMBRIDGE — What is the wound called GRIEF?

"Grief work" may be some of the hardest work you ever do. Healing in grief is not a passive event. It is an active process. Because grief is work, it calls on your emotional, physical, intellectual, and spiritual energy. You cannot skirt the outside edges of your grief; you must go directly through it.

Please do not try to embrace your grief alone. You need fellow companions who will bring you comfort and support. Our experience suggests trying to do grief work alone can be overwhelming. It is for this reason that Hospice of Guernsey, Inc., will be offering a new "closed" grief support group beginning on Tuesday, Jan. 28 at 6 p.m. It is open to anyone ready to begin the healing process following a loss. It will consist of nine sessions, meeting every other week for 1-2 hours, and will be held at the Hospice of Guernsey, Inc. office located at 9711 East Pike, Cambridge. Once we begin, no new members will be admitted; this allows for trust to develop amongst its members. One of the tools we will be utilizing will be the book entitled "Understanding Grief, Helping Yourself Heal" by Alan A. Wolfelt, Ph. D. It can be purchased on Amazon for a reasonable price. You do not have to purchase this guide to participate in the group. If you are interested in joining this group, or would like to discuss whether or not you would benefit, contact Terri Wootton, Bereavement Coordinator, at 740-432-7440.
