ST. CLAIRSVILLE — The Belmont County Tourism Council presented the "Mattox Award" during a dinner Dec. 16.
The award is in honor of the late Dr. John Mattox who was curator and co-founder of the Underground Railroad Museum in Flushing.
The inaugural award was given to Mattox's children — John Jr. and Suzanne Evans.
The award honors those in the community who work to promote Belmont County and attract people to the region.
Mattox's children also accepted awards from the county's Democratic Party as well as proclamations from Congressman Bill Johnson's Office.
