MARTINS FERRY — The lights went out at East Ohio Regional Hospital at midnight Friday, Sept. 28, 10 full days before the anticipated closing date of Oct. 7. Earlier in the month, the parent company of EORH and Ohio Valley Medical Center shuttered the Wheeling facility on Sept. 4.

Employees and emergency personnel conducted candlelight vigils at both hospitals at the time each was closed. The facilities hospitals were owned and operated by California-based Alecto Healthcare Services that provided jobs for over 1,100 employees.

Earlier in April, Wheeling Hospital closed Community Hospital in Bellaire, formerly City Hospital.
