ST. CLAIRSVILLE – Belmont College recently unveiled the college’s new mascot to students and staff members at the beginning of the 2019 Fall Semester.

Monty the Blue Jay has recently been named the new Belmont College mascot.

A blue jay was selected as the bird is native to the local area and matched the college’s blue, white and orange color scheme. The name "Monty" is a play on the word "Belmont."

Monty the Blue Jay was selected as the college mascot earlier in the year, however the announcement was kept quiet until students and staff members returned for the fall semester.

And when it comes to what matters most, the opinion of the college community, R.J. Konkoleski, Vice President of Advancement and Marketing, states that the new mascot has been a success. "I have heard a lot of positive reactions to Monty when he first debuted. Our students and staff are excited to see how the mascot will become part of the Belmont College identity."
