Evan’s Take: The draft lottery was May 14, 2019, and it didn’t disappoint. The order in the top five was Pelicans, Grizzlies, Knicks, Lakers, and Cavaliers. The Lakers luckily moved up into the top five with a 4% chance. Everyone has expected the first overall pick to be Zion Williamson. So everyone has expected the Pelicans to draft him. He’s a freak of nature that can do it all. Or the Pelicans could trade the first pick and pair somebody with Anthony Davis. The Pelicans have many options but I’m sure they will figure out something that will work for the whole organization.
Haiden’s Take:The NBA draft lottery is an annual event that decides the order of the NBA draft. In this year’s draft lottery the Memphis grizzlies were projected the eighth pick. The Grizzlies secured the second overall pick after watching teams like the Cavaliers,Suns, and Knicks drop below them. The New Orleans Pelicans won the first overall selection, and there is a good chance they will select Zion Williamson. That leaves Memphis with two explosive guards, Ja Morant and R.J. Barrett. I believe the right selection would be Ja Morant. Morant is a physical point guard that can shoot, finish tough layups, throw down dunks, and find guys for the open shot. The Grizzlies do have a solid point guard in Mike Conley, but Conley turned thirty-one this October. Ja Morant can come in and help the young core of Jaren Jackson and Jonas Valanciunas contend for a playoff spot.
