BELMONT — Belmont Village Council approved the resignations of two employees at its meeting March 20.

Councilmember Cathy Caretti submitted her resignation. Mayor Stanley Sobel thanked her for her time on council. Her term has three years remaining. Council hopes to appoint someone in the near future.

Meanwhile, Don Williams of the cemetery board submitted his resignation. Mayor Sobel commended Williams for all of the work he has put into making the cemetery a better place. Williams said he will be glad to help with anything that is needed with the cemetery. Mayor Sobel thanked him and informed everyone that the cemetery board is a non-paid volunteer service for the community and the trustees help them out greatly.

Water Board President Kenny Davis informed council that they are still producing more than 50 percent of the water. Davis said they have not had any water breaks recently. Davis said the village installed a new water and sewer tap for a new customer in the village. Davis said they have some work by Don Williams’ property that they hope to have done next month.

Koel Davia addressed council about improvements that are being made to the baseball field at the park. Davia said there have been some major water drainage issues on the field which have been remedied. Davia said the pinto field is now 60 feet instead of 50 feet. He said that several people have worked to expand the field, fix the backstop and the drainage. He hopes to be practicing on the field within the next two weeks. Davia is estimating that the fence will cost around $1,300. Mayor Sobel said they have received $2,274.50 in donations at the various events we hold in the village and that these donations were for park improvements. Davis said the utility door on the concession stand needs to be replaced also. Davis said the fiberglass door will cost around $220. Dan Scott made a motion to approve $1,750 for the fence and the door for the park, seconded by Grant Williams. Motion passed.

Mayor Sobel said Union Local is asking for the donation of the use of the gym for Night at the Races for the football moms.
