Barnesville Village Council voted to increase the salary of many village employees at its meeting Feb. 19.
Council approved increases for:
* Fire chief, assistant fire chief and E-Squad captain by $.50 an hour.
* Village Administrator by $.50 per hour.
* Full-time and part-time village employees by $.50 per hour.
* EMS employees by $.50 per hour.
Council also approved an ordinance that establishes the rate of $1 per hour for "in house" IT services.
Meanwhile, council increased the per fire call rate for fire department employees to $14 per call.
In other business, council approved an ordinance to transfer funds from Drug Task Force to Law Enforcement Trust Fund.
Council also approved the Credit Card Policy with revisions.
Fiscal Officer Vicki Magers told council that she and Jeannie Hannahs will be attending the Local Government Conference on March 7-8 in Columbus. The Fiscal Officer’s office will be closed for the training.
In other business council approved Casey Parrett to fire and EMS, and Derek Stewart to EMS.
Police Chief Rocky Sirianni asked council to send Sgt. Matt Tippie to Control Rifle Instructor training. The training will last five days at a cost of $650. Sgt. Tippie will then be able to train the other officers when he returns. Chief Sirianni added that there is a training fund for this. Council approved the training.
Fire Chief Tim Hall publicly thanked Ohio Hills Health Services for their recent donation to the fire department. The fire department is going to purchase equipment and training equipment.
In other business, Village Administrator Roger Deal said the seasonal "Help Wanted" ads have been placed in the local newspapers and on Indeed.
He also said the manufacturers of the new water meters will be in soon for installation training.
Meanwhile, Economic Development Director Bill Knox introduced Steve Avdakov of Heritage Architectural Associates to council. Avdakov’s firm will be representing the village’s interest during the Bohandy building rehabilitation.
In other business, Mayor Dale Bunting publicly congratulated several Barnesville students’ accomplishments. Those students included: Luke Powell, District 12, Division III Player of the Year; Anna Leach, 2019 Belmont County Spelling Bee champion; and the Barnesville Boys’ Basketball team for winning the OVAC Division III Championship.
Council will meet again Monday, 4 at 7 p.m. in council chambers.
