COLUMBUS — State Rep. Jack Cera (D-Bellaire) announced the release of $397,926.50 in state funds for improvements to the shooting range at Fernwood State Forest in Bloomingdale. The improvements seek to increase safety, improve shooting facilities and provide storm water control.
"This project is an example of how a site that was partially strip mined can be turned into a great recreation asset," said Cera. "It is important for the state to continue to invest in ways for Ohioans to connect with our state parks."
The project is scheduled for completion by July 1, 2019, and will include expansion of side berms and backstops, storm water diversion ditches and culverts and other upgrades. The renovations will also provide Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)-compliant access at each range.
The state funding was approved at Monday’s meeting by the state Controlling Board, a panel tasked with oversight of state spending. Rep. Cera, who has served on the Controlling Board since 2017, was again appointed to the panel for the 133rd General Assembly by House leadership.
