Allen C. Palmer, 97, of St. Clairsville, passed peacefully with his daughter at his side on Jan. 17, 2019, at Park Health Center. He previously lived in Barnesville and Hilliard.

He was born on April 26, 1921, in Worthington, a son of the late William Ray Palmer Sr. and Margaret Rickey Cless Palmer. Al was a retired Senior Life Underwriter from Nationwide Insurance and a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Thoburn United Methodist Church in St. Clairsville and a member of University Lodge 631 F&AM in Columbus. He was an avid Ohio State University football fan and a graduate of Barnesville High School and Muskingum University.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Wilda Lois Muller Palmer on April 5, 1982, and his second wife, Ruth Palmer on April 14, 2016; and a brother, William Ray Palmer Jr. in August 2018.

Al is survived by his two children, Barbara Palmer-Tengs of Springfield, Va., and David (Leanna) Palmer of Castle Pines, Colo.; grandchildren, Matthew (Melissa) Tengs of Arlington, Va., and Kelly (Paul) Rose of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; four great grandchildren, Samantha Grayson Tengs, Kylie, Preston and Peyton Rose; and his sister, Jean Davies of Barnesville.

Calling hours for family and friends were at the Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville on Sunday, Jan. 20, with Masonic Services.

Full Military Honors were conducted by the Belmont County Veterans Association. Calling hours were also held on Jan. 21, at Thoburn United Methodist Church prior to the service at 11 a.m. with Rev. Tom Jones officiating. Burial was to follow in Richland Cemetery, St. Clairsville.
