We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for coming to our game this past Friday night (Jan. 18). Your sacrifice and service to this great country that we live does not go unnoticed or unappreciated. We were very happy and encouraged to see the numerous veterans that came out to support us. We invite you to please come again, anytime that you are able.
It has also been brought to my attention that some of you were offended that our basketball team did not shake a group of veterans hands as did the River team. I think this act was very classy of the River basketball team as these veterans were sitting behind their bench. I informed their coach (Romick) that it was very commendable and I was sure these veterans appreciated it.
As for why I chose not to have my team do the same, I didn't want to single anyone or any group out in fear of not being able to shake every veteran’s hand. There were many veterans throughout the gymnasium and we would not be able to reach all of them. Therefore, we chose to show our gratitude by getting a picture taken. The picture, I believe turned out very well. We had both teams, the cheerleaders, and the veterans in the picture. The picture filled up the entire camera shot and was very meaningful to our team.
Lastly, if we offended anyone, we are truly sorry. It was not our intention to do so. We wanted to honor ALL the veterans and thank them for their service. We invite you to come back at any opportunity that you have. Once again, thank you for coming out and supporting us and we hope to see you again. God Bless America!
