ST. CLAIRSVILLE – The Community Improvement Corporation (CIC) of Belmont County spent time the end of 2018 to upgrade technology and implement systems in order to better assist current and future businesses of Belmont County.

"We hosted over a dozen workshops for businesses in 2018, and that number will grow in 2019," said Crystal Lorimor, executive director. "We already have five workshops scheduled for January and February, including topics about year-end taxes, how to start a business, Facebook for business, and a workshop about the cottage food industry. Those workshops are with our partners the Small Business Development Center and ACEnet. Other partners will be delivering workshops and informational sessions in future months."

During the workshops last year, the CIC tried different delivery methods, so they could decide what would work best for the workshop participants and the partners. In December, they purchased a new mobile unit that can be configured differently as needs change for each session. They also implemented technology that would allow some of the processes to be more seamless behind the scenes.

"We will launch the new technology and processes on Jan. 10 for our first workshops of 2019," explained Lorimor. "Our partners are as excited as we are, because it will help all of us better serve Belmont County."

The CIC assists existing businesses of all sizes and helps future Belmont County businesses either start here or come here. "The CIC made many connections across the state last year finding new resources and partners willing to serve and be a resource. It’s an exciting time," concluded Lorimor.
