Gun Bash set
The Bethesda Park District and The Bethesda Fire Department are hosting a Gun Bash on Oct. 6 at 5 p.m. at the James Carnes Center. They are raising money to purchase new turnout gear for the Fire Department and to pave the walking trail and replace bridges in the Village Park. They are selling 500 Gun Bash Tickets for $75 each and 150 Meal tickets for $30 each. Pickenpaugh to speak at CTGS meeting
Cumberland Trail Genealogical Society will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 10 in the St. Clairsville Public Library’s meeting room, 108 W. Main St., St. Clairsville. Speaker will be Don Pickenpaugh, GISP, retired GIS Director of Belmont County, who will present on the Belmont County GIS website. The mapping portion of website changed significantly in the spring of 2017, which was after his last presentation to CTGS in September of 2016. Members would benefit from an overview of the newer, faster features of the site. All CTGS meetings are free and open to the public. Plan to join them.
Storybook Park2018 set
Barnesville Hutton Memorial Library is excited to announce Storybook Park 2018! Mark your calendars for a great day of family fun on Saturday, Oct. 6 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Barnesville Memorial Park. In store for you this year are four exciting stories, a sing-a-long and much more. The stories that have been selected for this year are: "Pete the Cat and his Four Groovy Buttons", "Llama Llama Loves to Read", "Rock Away Granny" and "Wakem the Rooster Up All Night". The sing-a-long will be "Footloose". Come see the stories come to life as the artwork, scenes and decorations have once again been made by the Belmont Correctional Institute. Activities included in the fun family day will be stories, crafts, singing, clowns, free books, and character visits including Pete the Cat, Llama Llama and Marshall from Paw Patrol.
Friends of Barkcamp Car Show set
The Friends of Barkcamp will stage its first Car Show on Saturday, Sept. 22, at Barkcamp State Park, Belmont. Registration at the park takes place between 9 a.m. and Noon. The cost is $10 per vehicle registered. The first 50 cars receive a dash plaque. Awards will be presented at 3 pm including "best of show", "campers’ choice" and "top 25". Door prizes will be awarded and a 50/50 drawing will take place. Food will be offered by Brick Oven Pizza by Tiffany and music provided by DJ "The Spikeman". All proceeds for the event will go towards new playground equipment at the park beach area. After the show, a cruise of the park will take place. The event will take place rain or shine. The Big Tree Contest returns
Belmont Soil and Water Conservation District announces the 2018 Big Tree Contest. The Big Tree Contest will give recognition to the largest Cucumbertree, Magnolia acuminata, within Belmont County. Residents of Belmont County are invited to search for the biggest Cucumbertree in the county. A cucumbertree tree can be found from your back yard to a park. The winning tree’s landowner or nominator will be recognized at the Belmont SWCD 73rd annual Meeting & Banquet on Oct. 4. Trees will be measured by ODNR Division of Forestry Service Forester utilizing the three measurements of circumference, height, and average crown spread to obtain the total points. Entries must be received by Sept. 7. The Belmont County Big Tree Contest Nomination Form can be picked up at 130 W Main Street St. Clairsville, Ohio 43950, can be mailed or emailed to you, or can be found on the website at www.belmontswcd.org. Post Timber Harvest Workshop set
Come learn how to plan for a timber harvest, why you should involve a forester, different harvest methods, timber contracts, best management practices, and timber harvest notice of intent. Join us on Sept. 18 from 5 to 7 p.m. This will be held at Olney Friends School property off of Dusty Lane outside of Barnesville off of St. Rt 147. Dress appropriately for the woods.
