The second concert of the Showcase 2018 Summer Series is set for 7 p.m. Thursday, June 28 at the Community Arts Place in Barnesville. The program will be presented by Bluegrass Revue band from Beallsville. They will delight the Showcase audience with a combination of traditional and contemporary bluegrass with hard driving instrumentals and vocals mixed in. This is the 35th season for the summer events.
A food stand will be open during the evening. There will be poetry in the printed program booklets. Those coming to the musical show should bring lawn chairs. In case of rain, events will be indoors to the Little Rocks Learning Center on Shamrock Drive. Donations are appreciated. Floral gifts, courtesy of Burkhart Nursery of Barnesville will be given at the conclusion of the show.
Bluegrass Revue, which formed in 1982, has been providing entertainment at the churches, fairs, festivals, private parties, receptions, cake walks, picnics, and benefits since that time. The group has performed on WOUB radio and has made several recordings.
While some members have changed, the current members have been together for 25 years, with the remaining original one being banjo player, Chuck Francis. In addition to him, the others are Robert Fraley on guitar and vocals, and Lisa Francis on upright bass and vocals.
The poetry for the evening is about how folks as neighbors helped each other in earlier years to get things done. Elsa Crooks Harper, who grew up on a little farm at Rave Rocks near Beallsville, wrote about her childhood.
A food stand will be open during the evening.
