At the June Chamber of Commerce lunch meeting slated to Noon today at Dickinson Cattle Company, north of town on Muskrat Road, members finalized plans for the group’s annual July 4 Celebration Chicken BBQ at Memorial Park.

The fundraiser for the Chamber will take place Saturday, July 7 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., or as long as the supply lasts, at the Mothers Club shelter house. Dinners are $8 each and includes a 1/2 chicken, baked beans, cole slaw, roll, desert and drink. Additional sides, deserts and drinks are available at additional cost. Advance ticket sales is currently underway.

Jerry Campbell and his crew will cook the chickens for the fundraiser.

There are several events scheduled at the park that day including the "Beast of the East" baseball tournament, traditional fireworks at dusk, free swimming at the pool if repairs are completed by that time, and free entertainment at the amphitheater in the evening beginning with a concert by the First Christian Church group at 6 pm and a DJ will spin records from 7 to 10.

The chamber is also looking for sponsors for the two remaining downtown flower baskets. Contact Jill Stephen, office manager, at 740-425-4300 or for details.

The next chamber lunch meeting will take place Wednesday, July 11 at Noon at the Assumption Catholic Church.
