The Showcase Summer Concerts is announcing its 35th series dates for the 2018 season during June, July and August. The concerts always begin the second Thursday of June in Barnesville. This year’s dates will be June 14, June 28, July 12, Aug. 9 and Aug. 23.
The program events are held at Community Arts Place on Colonial Drive and in case of bad weather, alternate site is the former Grange Hall on Shamrock Drive. Performance times are set for 7 to 9 p.m.
The concert committee will soon have the musical groups listed in program handouts available. The events during the summer also feature poetry as well. Poems from Community Arts archives will be reprinted to remember the creativity of past literary artists from the local area.
The opening show for the summer series on June 14 is by Joe Williams and Deep Water, bluegrass from Senecaville. Next on June 28 is Bluegrass Revue from Beallsville, followed by July 12 with the Sarah Hays Band, performing a blues/rock and variety music vent from Wheeling, W.Va. On July 26, Hank Vincent and the Stonestreet Station will present variety from Follansbee, W.Va. On Aug. 9, the Buckeye Travelers from Caldwell will do country/variety and gospel while on Aug. 23, there will be country/blues and folk music by Hinson and Gorby from Cambridge and Mt. Pleasant.
The community is invited to take part in as many opportunities as possible to aid in the efficient operation of the concerts. Volunteers are needed so that the programs can continue for the benefit of all who enjoy them. Concerts are held rain or shine on Thursdays. Donations are appreciated. Fod stand during evening.
