With the onset of hazardous winter weather, area residents are reminded of the three levels of snow alerts, as follows:
• A Level I alert a roadway advisory. Roads are icy and hazardous, and snow might be blowing. Motorists are urged to use caution when traveling.
• A Level II alert is a roadway warning. Conditions are poor, with slick roads and blowing snow making travel difficult and hazardous. Only those motorists who feel travel is absolutely necessary should do so.
• A Level III alert is a roadway emergency. All roads are closed to all non-emergency personnel. Those in violation can be subject to arrest.
Employees should be aware of the policies their employers have adopted regarding reporting for work when these alerts are in effect.
The county sheriff has the authority to declare these alerts on all roadways within a county, including those inside municipalities.
