New Philadelphia, Ohio – Traffic delays are likely on Interstate 70 next week as part of the $9 million bridge replacement project at Marion Street (Exit 225) in Bridgeport.
ODOT’s contractor, JD Williamson Construction Co. Inc., from Tallmadge, Ohio, will be setting structural steel through possibly Wednesday, October 21st, over the westbound lanes of I-70 at Marion Street, requiring short duration closures of I-70 westbound by the Ohio State Highway Patrol. Traffic is expected to be slowed to a stop throughout the day for up to 15 minutes at a time.
Then Wednesday and possibly Thursday, October 22nd, the same work will be performed over the eastbound lanes of I-70 at Marion Street, requiring short duration closures of I-70 eastbound. Work restricting the interstate is expected to be completed by the end of the day Thursday.
The Marion Street bridge is closed to traffic as well as both the I-70 eastbound ramps. However, the westbound on ramp to I-70 and the westbound off ramp is open.
Local northbound traffic wanting to access I-70 eastbound is detoured to Wheeling Island. Access to Bridgeport continues to be maintained; however, thru eastbound truck traffic is encouraged to use I-470 to avoid congestion and possible delays.
Three structures are being replaced as part of this project, including the Marion Street bridge over I-70 and the eastbound on and off ramp structures to I-70.
Weather permitting, officials hope to reopen the eastbound off ramp and part of Marion Street by the end of the year.
