The Barnesville Rotary Club met for a luncheon meeting on Tuesday, March 17 at noon in the New Life Center of the First Christian Church of Barnesville. President Joe Miller called the meeting to order. The club opened in song, the pledge of allegiance to the American flag, and prayer led by Andy Woods.

There were no guests or visiting Rotarians in attendance.

There was 79.2% club member attendance.

Doug Huff was the only wheel spinner.

The bulletin number is 40. This is the number of firefighters on the roster of the Barnesville Fire Department.

Rotarian Larry Dietrich, who has been the Barnesville club treasurer for several years, was recognized by Rotary District Governor Tom Kokensparger as a "Super Secretary" for Rotary for his complete and efficient return of all reporting information to the district each year as well as his enthusiastic support of the district and its initiatives. Congratulations, Larry!

Barnesville's fire chief, Bob Smith, was the guest of Rotarian Dave Mayberry. The department has been in existence since the 19th century. The chief spoke about all the fire department and E-squad do for the village. He discussed the equipment and training needs that the department and its members must meet each year and the different fundraising programs that they partake in annually. Smith also spoke of the need for a paid department rather than a volunteer one such as the village had in years past. According to Smith, the fire department received 273 calls in 2008.
