It's not Running for the Roses, it is Racing for Rox! You can be part of a fundraiser that will benefit the Barnesville High School Baseball Team. Barnesville Baseball Parents have hired a company that will bring thoroughbred horse racing on sealed films to the Barnesville Elks at 6 p.m. on Saturday, March 14. Dinner will begin at 6 p.m. and racing will begin at 7 p.m. All races are filmed and have 10 thoroughbred horses in each race. The company will include staff that handle the creation of the racing sheets, calculate the betting odds, will call the races and also provide general guidance on running the event. It is truly going to be an exciting and special event that both men and women will enjoy! Best part is that the owner of the winning horse in each race will win $25. Companies can become a Race Sponsor by donating $25 to the Barnesville Baseball Team. The company will be listed on the Posting Sheets and will also be announced throughout the evening as well as posted on the sponsor board. Another way local businesses can help the baseball team is by donating a product, gift certificate, etc. that we will utilize as door prizes throughout the night. The cost is $15 (in advance) and you will get entrance to the event for two, a horse that you get to name, two free raffle tickets making you eligible for the door prizes, dinner for two and snacks throughout the evening. You will also be able to participate in betting on horses throughout the night, so you can win at times other than when your horse is running!
If you act now, you can get a horse as there are 120 horses available because there will be at least 12 pre-sold races with 10 horses in each race. But if you procrastinate, you will have other opportunities to participate. Here is how:
- You can pay $15 at the door to get into the event, two raffle tickets and then you can also participate in betting on the horses in the races. $2 bets will be accepted and the payout will be based on the bets and odds.
- Also at the end of the pre-sold races, there will be an auction where there will be 10 horses up for sale, and those 10 horses will run the last race.
Anyone over the age of 21 can participate. There will be a cash bar available. If you would like to participate, you may contact any Baseball Parent or call Toyna Carpenter at (740) 484-1071, Cindy Ferguson at (740) 425-2503, Stacy Ackerman at (740) 757-2366, or Coach DJ Butler at (740) 425-4293.
Horses went on sale on Thursday, Feb. 12 following the Barnesville Baseball Parent's Organization's scheduled meeting.
