Local church to begin "March Against Cancer"

Barnesville First United Methodist Church is kicking-off its "March Against Cancer" fundraiser and awareness campaign with an introduction at the Sunday, March 1 worship service.

Rev. Thomas C. Detling said through the month of March, the congregation will be collecting donations for local organizations including: The Belmont County Relay For Life, 3 C's Cancer Support Group and the Mooning Duck Foundation.

Detling said during the March 1 service they will recognize everyone who is a cancer survivor, those who are still fighting the disease, those who have had family, friends or know anyone who has had cancer.

"The idea is that by the end, everyone will be standing," Detling said. "We will be able to look around and see how cancer affects all of us."

Detling said there are many cases of cancer in Barnesville.

"We don't know why, but we're tired of it and decided to do something about it. We are going to put our money where our mouth is," Detling said.

The Barnesville First United Methodist Church is located at 123 West Church Street. For more information, call the church office at 425-3245. The organizations listed above will be highlighted during March in The Enterprise.
