Laura E. Gibson from Quaker City recently celebrated her 104th birthday at Emerald Pointe Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Laura, who was born in Calais on Jan. 17, 1903 had three children Her family includes five grand children, nine great grandchildren and 10 great, great grandchildren.

Her first ride on a train was to Zanesville to see the Barnum and Bailey Circus. She got engaged on the return trip.

She first voted in 1925 and the first president that she voted for was Franklin D. Roosevelt.

She remembers the men coming home from World War I.

Her fist plane ride was in 1983 to California at the age of 78.

She is a member of the Quaker City United Methodist church which meant a great deal to her.

Her grand daughter Donna Armstrong said Laura and the family are thankful for the loving care that she has received from both the Beckett House in New Concord for nine years and presently at Emerald Pointe in Barnesville where she has enjoyed the visits from relatives.

Laura celebrated on Friday, Jan. 16 at Emerald Pointe with a party complete with musical entertainment. Guests included Donna and her cousin Sam and his wife who came from California to celebrate her birthday.

Sam said his grandmother danced with him at her 100th birthday party.
