A new back wall for the park amphitheater stage is the first step in major renovation of the park amphitheater stage. Soon the stage floor will be covered in concrete and other improvements will follow. Continuous entertainment from the new stage is scheduled from 1 p.m. until 9 p.m.'Hoot 'N Holler' Community Fun Day May 21Saturday, May 21 is the date set for Barnesville FFA's big production - "Hoot 'n Holler" Community Fun Day at Barnesville Memorial Park. The entire park will be taken over with all kinds of games, demonstrations, exhibits, contests, entertainment and food. The activities begin at 1 p.m. and continue until the last square dance call Saturday night. Everything is free except the square dance, corn hole competition and food.Continuous entertainment will take place beginning at 1 p.m. from the Amphitheater stage, that should be completely renovated by that date. The final entertainment will be a square dance in the Albert S. George Youth Center from 9 p.m. until midnight. There will be fun activities for kids such as a Kiddie Tractor Pull, fishing tournament, hay ride, pizza eating contest, petting zoo, face painting and more.More organizations and associations will be on hand for exhibits and demonstrations. The groups include Farm Bureau, Barnesville Hospital, Soil and Water Conservation District, Safety Pup, Ohio Department of Natural Resources' mine safety rescue unit and others.An Artisan Show will feature stained glass art, wood carving, cake decorating, quilting and more.Area FFA chapters will take part in a softball tournament.Tractors will gather at Barnesville High School at 10 a.m. to begin a Tractor Cruise of the area. There will be a Tractor Show from 2 to 4 p.m. at the park.This "Hoot 'n Holler" Community Fun Day was generated by FFA members who wanted to do something for the community. With approval of their teacher-advisor, Stephanie Plumly, the students began working on the event at the beginning of the school year and their enthusiasm and hard work have continued. They are hopeful for a great turnout, rain or shine. In case of the latter, events will take place in the many shelters.To cover their expenses for this big undertaking, FFA members are selling raffle tickets on a Toro lawn mower. Tickets are also available from handy Andy's on South Chestnut Street.
