Barnesville Alumni Banquet July 9

The Barnesville Alumni Banquet will be held Saturday, July 9, at Barnesville High School Cafeteria.

Classes of 1931, 1936, 1941 and 1946 will receive letters and reservation information from the Banquet Committee.

Other classes planning to attend will receive the information from their class committees.

The 1961 class will attend the banquet as part of their three day 50 year class reunion.

Pennyroyal Opera House show April 15

The Pennyroyal Opera House in Fairview, Ohio will have a bluegrass show on Friday, April 15 featuring Chris Jones & the Night Drivers. Opening the show will be Bluegrass 409.

The kitchen will open at 5 p.m. and the show will start at 7 p.m.

Belmont Grange meets April 15

Belmont Grange 889 will meet Friday evening April 15. As per a decision made at the last meeting, we will meet at 7 p.m. Refreshments will be served at 7 p.m. by Bob and Loisanne Rockwell followed by the business meeting. Those attending should bring something to share with the group during the program.

Early bird swimming passes available

Barnesville swimming pool will be offering "early bird" swimming pass rates from April 7 to May 13. Family passes will be $100 ($125 normally) and single passes will be $50 ($75 normally). Passes can be purchased at the Water Department office Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Hazen Lodge Breakfast April 23

A pancake breakfast is scheduled for Saturday, April 23 at the Hazen Masonic Lodge No. 251 at 7-10 a.m. in Bethesda. Our pancake breakfast is a free community event for Masons and non-Masons, their wives, children, and guests. It is a time for friends and family to share time together, to renew old acquaintances, and to make new friends.

Today, Freemasonry is deeply involved with helping people. Masonic related groups in the United States, including Lodges, Shriners, Scottish and York Rite, Grotto and the Order of the Eastern Star, contribute more than $2 million every day to charity. BHS Varsity Softball game rescheduled

The Barnesville Varsity Softball team will play at Beallsville on Monday, May 2 at 5 p.m. The bus will leave Barnesville High School at 3:15 p.m.

Warren Township Community Clean Up Day April 30

Community Clean up Day will be held on Saturday, April 30 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Barnesville Train Depot parking lot, 300 E. Church St. Junk, old appliances, furniture, household electronics, car batteries, household batteries, standard car and passenger truck tires, etc. will be accepted and recycled or disposed of properly. Hazardous waste, liquids, food waste, oversized or wet and muddy tires, tree and brush trimmings, construction and demolition materials will not be accepted. Paint can be accepted only if they are empty and completely dried out.

Monroe County Chapter OGS meets April 17

The Monroe County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society will hold its monthly meeting Sunday, April 17 at 2 p.m. at the Monroe County District Library at Route 78 and Home Avenue in Woodsfield.

Girls softball league cornhole tournament April 16

The girls softball league will be having a cornhole tournament for players on the lower tennis courts at the park on April 16. Pigtail will start at 10:30 a.m. and Ponytail at 1 p.m. Players are asked to please bring there candy bar money. Barnesville Rotary Club spaghetti dinner April 14 (front)

The Barnesville Rotary Club Annual Spaghetti Dinner is scheduled for Thursday, April 14 from 3-7 p.m. at the Barnesville First United Methodist Church, (Edith Nims Fellowship Hall), 123 West Church Street, Barnesville, OH 43713.

Ohio Toy Soldier Show and Sale May 15

The 19th Annual Ohio Toy Soldier Show & Sale will be held Sunday, May 15, 2011 at The Galaxy Restaurant and Banquet Center in Wadsworth, Ohio. The Show will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be quality toy soldier dealers from around the country with both new and antique toy soldiers and equipment. Freeport F&AM chicken dinner April 17

On April 17, the Freeport F&AM will be having a chicken BBQ. Dinners will be served from noon - 4 p.m. at a cost of $10 each. Dinner includes: 1/2 chicken, fries, cole slaw, roll, desert and drink. Flushing Garden Club meets April 18

The Flushing Garden Club would like to invite all Region 12 Garden Clubs to their April 18, 2011 open meeting at the Flushing Methodist Church located on High St. in Flushing ,Ohio. Summer swim meeting April 17

The Barnesville Summer Swim Team will hold a Parent Meeting. This meeting is open to last season's parents and to any parent that is considering summer swim for their children. The meeting will be held on Sunday, April 17 at 6 p.m. at the Barnesville Park. Discussions will be election of officers, the upcoming season and the Championships that will be held this year in Barnesville.

United Methodist Women meet

Belmont County Retired Teachers meeting April 14

The Belmont County retired teachers' luncheon and meeting will be held at 12 p.m., April 14, 2011 at the Belmont Hills Country Club. The Barnesville Hospital Auxiliary will be sponsoring a Uniform Sale and Bake Sale on Friday, April 15. The Uniform Sale will be 7 a.m. - 4 p.m. in the classroom and the bake sale will be at 10 a.m. in the main lobby.

Fire department fishing tournament May 28

The Barnesville Fire Department will be hosting its 4th Annual Youth Fishing Tournament. Bring your own bait. Hot dogs and drinks will be provided.

The tournament will be held on Saturday, May 28, from 9 a.m. until noon, with registration from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. at Barnesville Park Lake. All children under 15 years of age are invited to participate.

Annual village cemetery clean up begins

Residents are asked to remove grave decorations from all village operated cemeteries. These include Crestview, Northern and Southern cemeteries. The Village of Barnesville requests that all decorations are removed by April 15 as part of the annual spring clean up. Decorations not removed by this date will be disposed of by the cemetery staff.

Group sessions on health and healing

Group sessions on health and healing will be held on Wednesdays from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Grange Hall on Shamrock Drive, Barnesville (just after the Barnesville Middle School entrance.)

This on-going group will help participants identify areas of dis-ease in their lives, patterns of unhealthy behaviors and ways to change themselves to become more healthy physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Initially these groups will be facilitated by Sam Hunkler, MD. These sessions are free and open to the public.

WIC walk-in clinic

The Belmont County WIC program will sponsor walk-in clinics on Tuesdays in St. Clairsville and on Wednesdays in Bellaire. The hours are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. New clients need proof of address, proof of income and identification such as a drivers license or a social security card. Crib cards will be accepted for newborns. Clients who need recertified will need proof of income and their WIC folders. Also, a written authorization from a parent/guardian to have a child receive WIC services is needed if a parent/guardian is not with a child at the time of recertification. Belmont County WIC is having open enrollment the months of November and December. WIC is a supplemental nutrition program that encourages breastfeeding and provides education to its clients. Women who are pregnant, breastfeeding, infants and children up to the age of five qualify. Working families are encouraged to apply.
