Kenneth E. Ackerman, 93, formerly of Barnesville and Athens died Wednesday, January 20, 2016 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. He was born in Belmont County on January 24, 1922 to the late Samuel and Josephine (Hagan) Ackerman. Kenneth was an US Air Force Veteran of WWII. He earned his Bachelors Degree in Agriculture from The Ohio State University and Masters in Economics from Ohio University. He retired from Ohio State University where he served the majority of his career as the Athens County Agricultural Extension Agent. Ken was a Life Member of the VFW of Athens, Past President of Athens Rotary Club, and he was honored by the Chamber of Commerce in Athens County as CItizen of the Year. After retirement, Ken and Sue operated Ackerman Antiques and enjoyed traveling the United States. Ken was an avid reader, historian and genealogist. He deeply loved his family, learning and a good debate. In addition to his parents, Ken is preceded in death by two brothers: Myron and Keith Ackerman. Ken is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Sue Ackerman; son, Allen (Sue) Ackerman of Oshkosh, WI; daughter, Susan Ackerman of Sarasota, FL; three grandchildren: Sarah Ackerman, John Ackerman and Mike (Stacy) Wolken; two great-grandchildren: Andrew and Lillian Wolken; sister, Wilda Rector of Phoenix, AZ; sister-in-law, Evelyn Ackerman of Somerton, OH; and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held on Monday, January 25, 2016 at 1:00 pm at Somerton Cemetery. Military Honors will be conducted by Guernsey County Veterans Council at the cemetery.
