Yevincy attends National Young Leaders State Conference

Hunter Yevincy, a freshman at Barnesville High School, recently attended the National Young Leaders State Conference in Columbus, Ohio. This leadership development program is held in a number of cities across the country.

Yevincy was nominated to attend the conference through his achievements at Barnesville Middle School. At the encouragement of Mrs. Jean Gallagher, teacher of the Gifted and Talented Education program, Hunter participated in the Mid-West Academic Talent Search as an eighth grader taking the SAT and qualifying for programming through the Center for Talent Development. Additionally, Ms. Denise Leach, eighth grade language arts teacher, individually nominated Yevincy in addition to other students.

As a freshman, Yevincy was a member of the Shamrock Swim Team, breaking three school records and qualifying both on a relay and individually for the district meet. He is a percussionist in the HS Concert Band. He also swims for the Barnesville Summer Swim Team, JB Chambers YMCA team and holds the rank of blue belt/brown stripe at USA Martial Arts in Bridgeport, Ohio. Yevincy is a member of Boy Scout Troop 59 in St. Clairsville, Ohio and an active member of First Presbyterian Church also in St. Clairsville. He also participated in Ohio Model UN recently as a Council Chairperson.

Yevincy attended the conference with the financial assistance of the Barnesville Rotary, the Barnesville Jr. Women's Club and the Barnesville Parent Teacher Organization.

Considering a career in the ministry and/or engineering, Yevincy believes that his experiences and skills gained at the conference can only enhance any endeavor he pursues.
