MORRISTOWN — A big night from Braden Lucas propelled host Union Local High past Martins Ferry by a 40-15 final score in gridiron action on Friday night, boosting the Jets to a perfect 3-0 on the season.
Lucas churned out a total of 141 yards rushing in 17 carries with four TDs to lead the Jets’ offensive attack. Lucas also added three receptions for 34 yards to complete his big night.
Martins Ferry jumped out to a 9-0 lead after the first period, with Dalton Hoover opening the scoring with a one-yard TD run followed by a 28-yard field goal from Cody Olson.
Lucas got going to open the second stanza with a 24-yard TD run at the 11:53 mark to pull the Jets within 9-6.
Hoover the tallied his second score with a five-yard run to extend Ferry’s lead out to 15-6 with 8:09 left in the first half.
Lucas would then take over to put the Jets firmly in control by scoring three straight touchdowns on runs of two, 70 and one yards to give UL a 28-15 lead with 7:45 left in the third quarter.
Ben Howell chipped in with 104 yards on 19 totes for Union Local, with QB Cal Kildow hitting on 7-of-12 passes for 70 yards in the contest.
Hoover finished with 54 yards on 20 carries to lead Martins Ferry (1-2), while Purple Riders’ quarterback Jacob Probst connected on 6-of-12 passing attempts for 78 yards. Union Local closed with a 350-194 edge in total offense.
